In August, 2006 St. James donated significant funds to the Wonji Emmanuel School located in the Shoa Oromiya Region of Ethiopia. The donation was designed for building a Kindergarten for 45 students. Since then, the school has grown to over 800 students in grades K thru 9. The pastor visited the school in April, 2016. As a result, St. James is now a partner with the school and providing ongoing support for 50 of the 800 students. The school is located in an impoverished region and stands as an educational beacon in that region. One of the students expressed to the pastor that her goal was to change the perception that Europeans and Americans had of Ethiopia. She and many of the other students plan to become doctors, lawyers, engineers, etc. and remain in Ethiopia to participate in the country’s rebirth.
