St. James Pentecostal Church was organized under the late Elder Corrie Anders while also serving as pastor of New Bethel Pentecostal Holiness Church in Fayetteville, NC in early 1975. The church first held services at the home of the late James H. Larkins, Sr. James Larkins, Sr. was killed in a plane crash while traveling home from Columbus, Ohio where he came to know the Lord Jesus Christ during a visit with his daughter. The church is named in his honor.

Elder Anders kept the young congregation together until 1977 when Elder Boozer was named pastor. Afterwards in 1978 the late Wallace Johnson installed Elder Robert L. Rich as pastor. The church was then moved from its location on Montague Road to its current location on Highway 210 and Montague Road. A new building was erected and the inaugural service was held on June 22, 1980 – To God Be the Glory!

In early 1990, Elder Robert L. Rich felt the call of the Lord to start a church in Wilmington – Apostolic Community Temple. Elder John E. Lewis was named pastor of the church and faithfully served in this office until he became ill in May, 2004. In July, 2004, Elder Angelo D. Williams was installed as the church’s 5th pastor by District Elder Maxie Dobson
